COURSE 2 – STRENGTH & CONDITIONING – SPEED AND AGILITY FOR SPORT (formerly SAQ LEVEL 1)
Course Objectives:
- Further develop the principles of SAQ Training
- Examine, understand and appreciate the difference between speed and agility training
- Examine and develop the concept of agility training and its relevance to conditioning for sport
- Formally investigate and develop the theory and practice of speed development over 5-10m
- Demonstrate and teach further exercises which will promote and enhance speed, agility and quickness

COURSE 4 – STRENGTH & CONDITIONING – ENDURANCE TRAINING DEVELOPMENT
Course Objectives:
- Examine and study the elements of Endurance Training
- Examine, understand and appreciate the place and importance of endurance training n the fitness programme
- Examine, understand and appreciate the importance of running, circuits and ball work in the endurance programme

COURSE 5 – PRE-SEAON CONDITIONING TRAINING WORKSHOP:
Course Objectives:
- Examine and study the components of fitness
- Examine, understand and appreciate the modern concept of multi-sprint stamina training
- Examine, understand and appreciate the importance of skill and ball work in the fitness programme
- Explain and teach the principles of power development
- Examine, understand and appreciate the need for Functional Strength conditioning
- Examine, understand and appreciate the importance of Core Stability development
Course Content
10.00 Lecture: Introduction to the Course
Briefly introduces the course content and the layout of the day
10.15 Lecture: The Components of Physical Fitness
An in-depth look at the various components of fitness and their elements are presented and explained. This lecture also outlines the pre-season work that is necessary to build the foundation for skill and speed development during the competition season. It also discusses how stamina and strength work can be integrated into the programme during pre-season and during competition season.
11.00 Workshop 1: Evaluation of the Components of Fitness and How they relate to the Game
Participants are divided into groups to study and evaluate all the various components f fitness presented in the previous lecture and to evaluate their importance to their own individual or team needs.
11.30 Lecture: The Principles of Pre-Season Stamina Training
Examines and discusses the whole area of stamina training and how best to develop a programme that is specific to the requirements of one’s specific sport. This includes a detailed examination of multi-sprint stamina as well as speed repeatability training for field sports specifically.
An evaluation of a motion analysis 5 minute game by the participants is conducted to help coaches understand the demands of the game.
12.30 Workshop 2: Pre-Season Stamina Running Drills
This workshop demonstrates how to use a series of multi-sprint stamina drills to develop the stamina fitness required for the game.
Coaches are encouraged to design more drills and exercises and exchange them with other participants.

13.30 Workshop 3: Pre-Season Stamina with Ball Drills
This workshop demonstrates how to use a series of multi-sprint stamina drills USING THE BALL to develop the stamina fitness required for the game. Coaches are encouraged to design more ball drills and exercises and exchange them with other participants.
14.00 Lecture: Strength Development in Pre-Season Training
This lecture examines the various types of strength needed by players and how best to develop each aspect of the strength continuum
This will also cover the importance of core strength and functional movement ability.
14.45 Workshop 4: On-Field Strength and Core Stability Training
A series of exercises are presented which can be used on-field or as indoor training exercises by coaches and managers to enable them to build greater leg strength as well as greater upper-body strength in their players. This workshop also demonstrates good core stability training exercises.
15.15 Workshop 5: On-Field Strength and Core Stability Training
The workshop looks at the use of Med balls and Plyometric jumps to prepare athletes and team players for their specific sports. The use of med ball for sports players is examined, discussed and presented in a practical way. The effectiveness of plyometrics is developed for the participating coaches.
15.45 Lecture: Designing the Programme
A series of exercises are presented which can be used on-field or as indoor training exercises by coaches and managers to enable them to build greater leg strength as well as great upper-body strength in the players.

COURSE 6 – COACHING SKILLS, MOVEMENT AND FUNCTION to 6 to 12 YEARS OLDS:
(NOTE: This course is for coaching sports, games and physical develelopment in general)
Course Objectives:
- Examine and study the development process of the child athlete or player
- Examine, understand and appreciate the early, middle and late childhood physical needs of the child
- Examine, understand and appreciate the various skills fundamental, functional and sport skills children need to develop in childhood
- Examine, understand and appreciate the theory and practice of Fundamental Motor Skill Development
- Examine, understand and appreciate the theory and practice of Functional Skill Development
- Examine, understand and appreciate the theory and practice of Sport Skill Progression and Development

10.00 Lecture: Introduction to the Course
Briefly introduces the course content and the layout of the day
10.10 Lecture: SKILL DEVELOPMENT
This lecture examines the various types of skills (from motor to functional to sports skills) needed by children as they grow from 6 to 12 years of age and how these skills are necessary for the child’s development and how they influence the level of sports skills the children can reach as teenage or as adult players/athletes
10.45 Workshop: DEVELOPING FUNDAMENTAL MOTOR SKILLS
This workshop demonstrates how best to develop Fundamental Motor Skills for the athletes and players in one’s care. It looks at the theory and practice of FMS coaching and learning. It will provide FMS exercises for balance, locomotion, awareness and manipulation development of the child – each of the four areas are demonstrated with equal emphasis.
11.30 Lecture 2: UNDERSTANDING THE WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITY FOR THE YOUNG ATHLETE/PLAYER
This workshop examines the importance of the various windows of opportunity for rapid development of many of the components of physical fitness for the child. It highlights the work has needs to be done and the work to be avoided with children at a young age.
11.30 Workshop 2: DEVELOPING FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
Examines the importance of functional development for young players and include exercises to develop their ability to improve how their body functions correctly and more efficiently for sport. This section is a fresh look at the development of the child in terms of the ability to use his or her body more effectively and more efficiently and enhance his or her performance levels in sport.

13.30 Lecture: THE PRINCIPLES OF COACHING CHILDREN IN EARLY CHILDHOOD (U6 & U8)
Examines the development background of Under 6 and Under 8 player. It looks at how they learn skills and movement patterns and ensures that coaches understand what best helps them to develop the players as individuals and as hurlers.
This background knowledge is vital for understanding the players’ abilities and limitations at this period in the growth.
14.15 Workshop 3: SPEED TRAINING IN THE FIRST WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY FOR SPEED
This workshop outlines and demonstrates the exercises and drills that should be used with boys and girls in the first window of opportunity for speed.
These basic exercises are seen as vital for the development of speed and agility for all young athletes and players.
15.00 Lecture 4: THE PRINCIPLES OF COACHING CHILDREN IN LATE CHILDHOOD (U10 & U12)
Examines the background and development of U10 & U12 Children as children first and then as sports people. It ensures coaches know what children of this age group are capable of learning and how hard they can be pushed as well as knowing their ability and limitations for training and competition performance.
15.45 Workshop 4: SPEED DEVELOPMENT BETWEEN THE WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITY
This workshop presents the exercises and activities that can be used for the child athlete/player who has left the first window of speed but still needs to develop speed and agility and prepare correctly for the second window of opportunity for speed.

COURSE 7 – FUNCTIONAL SCREENING AND DEVELOPMENT AWARD COURSE
Course Objectives:
- Introduce participants to the concept of functional screening system of training
- Explain the principles of screening or testing individual athletes or players
- Demonstrate how to conduct and interpret the Overhead Deep Squat Screen
- Demonstrate and teach exercises to correct restriction or limitations noted in athletes/players in the screening process
Course Content:
- Introduction to Functional Screening
- The Rationale, definition and benefits of Functional Screening
- How to identify compensations (compensatory movement habits/patterns)
- Developing your recording/scoring system Warm Up
- Understanding compensation and the muscles
- Understanding Physique, Posture and Function
- Designing corrective programme – stretch, strengthen and re-learn movement

- Lecture 1 – Introduction to Functional Screening and the Rationale, definition and benefits of Functional Screening
- Lecture 2 – How to set-up and addminister the OHS screen and identifying compensations (compensatory movement habits/patterns)
- Workshop 1 – Parctising OHS Set-uo and evaluating simple compensations
- Lecture 3 -Understanding compensation and the muscles and developing a recording/scoring system
- Workshop 2 Using a simple 4 step evaluation system by screening 4 or 5 fellow participants – followed by shared discussiob
- Lecture 3 – Designing corrective programme – stretch, strengthen and re-learn movement
- Workshop 3 – Completing and learning the correctrive exercises
